FOR BETTER HEALTH OUTCOMES

Supporting Partners Working to Reduce Substance Use among Pregnant Women

Background

Perinatal Quality Collaboratives (PQCs) are state or multistate networks that work to improve the quality of care for mothers and babies. Many PQCs across the country are focusing some of their work on addressing maternal substance use disorder (SUD). Through funding from a 5-year CDC cooperative agreement*, Karna supported the National Center on Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities, Division of Reproductive Health by developing new tools and resources. Karna assembled a Maternal Health Advisory Network (MHAN), a diverse group of 15+ expert collaborators, who provided ongoing input, advice, and ideas to support Karna’s development of tools and resources to assist PQCs’ efforts to decrease maternal substance use.
