Assessing the Impact of a School-Based Violence Intervention Program

Background

Karna is conducting a three-year evaluation of the Kings Against Violence Initiative, Inc. (KAVI) school-based violence intervention program, funded by the Department of Justice (DOJ) Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP). The KAVI school-based program aims to reduce youth violence in five high schools and one middle school in Brooklyn, NYC. Karna’s evaluation employs a mixed-methods approach, including pre-post surveys and post-module knowledge and satisfaction assessments with student participants, and in-depth interviews with KAVI and school staff, as well as students. Karna organizes collaborative learning and adaptation meetings to analyze real-time data and ensure the program meets its goals.
