Case Study: Empowering Providers for Patient Conversations
Background
Karna worked with the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) on a CDC-funded project to increase vaccine confidence among women who are pregnant, breastfeeding, recently pregnant, and/or planning to become pregnant. The goals of the program were to increase vaccine confidence by empowering and activating clinicians to have confident vaccine conversations with patients, increase the visibility of vaccine confidence by trusted clinicians, and address vaccine misinformation.

RESEARCH AND EVALUATION
- Tracked metrics on clinician training, as well developed as pre- and post-training data collection tools
- Tracked metrics on social media posts and public service announcement distribution
- Collected mixed methods data on Champion Network member demographics, patient populations, satisfaction with program, support they received, and activities they completed
TRAINING + TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE
- Developed the Inform to Empower: Building COVID-19 Vaccine Confidence One Conversation at a Time Training and Tool Kit, a six-module video training and accompanying tool kit
- Established a Champion Network of clinicians that regularly support vaccine confidence activities
- Established a Social Media Ambassador program for clinicians and their staff
- Set up a collaboration platform for Champion Network members to engage and exchange ideas/best practices
- Supported Champions with ongoing technical assistance via email, one-on-one phone calls, and topic-specific online group office hours
- Coordinated and hosted collaborative webinars
RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT
- Developed social media messages and images
- Developed several easy-to-use, timely, plain language resources for clinicians to share with patients to supplement conversations
- Developed and produced a Public Service Announcement (PSA) titled “Amazing Things”
