Karna is committed to making our website and the materials we produce usable by everyone, including people with disabilities. We treat accessibility as part of how public health work gets done, not as a step at the end of it.
Our conformance target
We are working toward conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA, and with Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act. This site is currently partially conformant, which means some content does not yet fully meet the standard.
What we know needs work
- Some documents published before [[YEAR]] do not meet current accessibility standards. We are remediating them in order of use, and we can provide an accessible version of any document on request.
- Pages carried over from our previous website are still being rebuilt. A portion of them have heading structures that do not yet follow a strict hierarchy.
- Alternative text is still being written for part of our image library, including leadership photographs.
- Some text does not yet meet the minimum colour contrast ratio against its background. A design revision is underway.
How we test
We combine automated scanning with manual review. Manual testing includes keyboard-only navigation and screen reader testing with NVDA. Automated and manual results are tracked together, and issues are prioritised by the severity of the barrier they create rather than by how easy they are to fix.
