Continuing Karna’s focus on integrity and results, team members Megan Ramsden, and Madison Walter-Garcia co-authored a public health report on global security. The paper analyzes the U.S. response to the four laboratory-confirmed cases of Ebola virus disease (Ebola) beginning on September 30, 2014 in Dallas, TX. These four cases placed an astounding burden of work on the state and local health departments and required the efforts of hundreds of health care workers. This article dissects this outbreak to illustrate how some aspects of modern reality bring an increased risk for disease acquisition, both in the United States and abroad.
