Our September Employee Spotlight recipient is a pivotal part of our Research and Evaluation team, serving on the Prevention Research Center Vaccine Confidence Network (PRC-VCN) project. She’s an Evaluation Specialist who credits collaboration and continuous learning as key tools for making an impact in the work that we do. This month, we spotlight Hepsi Swarna as she gives us more insight into her project experience, why she enjoys what she does, and a little more about her.
Q: When did you start with Karna? What is your position?
I joined Karna in January 2022, taking on the role of an Evaluation Specialist III.
Q: What’s the day-to-day of your role like?
In my role as an Evaluation Specialist, my daily activities revolve around the evaluation of the Prevention Research Center Vaccine Confidence Network (PRC-VCN). PRC-VCN is a nationwide network of 26 PRCs/academic research centers, focused on increasing COVID-19 vaccine confidence and uptake in diverse communities. My tasks include data collection & analysis, methodology development, preparing reports, providing technical assistance and client communication.
Q: What would you say is your “Why?” in relation to the work that you do?
I am driven by the idea that through rigorous evaluation, we can make informed decisions, improve programs and policies, and ultimately enhance the lives of individuals and communities.
Q: What has been your favorite project(s) at Karna, and why?
My favorite project is the PRC-VCN project due to its sheer scope. This scale brought unique challenges and exciting opportunities that enriched the evaluation process.
Q: What have been your biggest accomplishments on our team?
Working on a complex project like the PRC-VCN has been incredibly satisfying and I’m proud of the achievements we’ve made as a team on this project.
Q: What have you gained from working at Karna?
Working at Karna, I have gained excellent research and evaluation skills, worked effectively within teams, gained exposure to impactful large-scale projects, and acquired unique experiences that have contributed significantly to my professional growth. It’s truly a privilege to be a part of Karna, working under a great leadership team.
Q: What do you do to stay fit/healthy?
I cook and eat healthy.
Q: What tip would you give to someone who wants to make an impact and is interested in doing the work that you do?
Work diligently, stay updated with the latest research and evaluation trends, and do not hesitate to seek guidance from team members and supervisors if you need help. Collaboration and continuous learning are key.
Q: What is something most people do not know about you?
I speak 4 languages.
